City & Guilds Assured Advanced Motorcycle Inspection for Police Officers

The programme of study is the third course in a suite of courses designed for Traffic / Road Policing Officers and Vehicle Examiners and covers in detail all aspects of Motorcycle Technology. Emphasis is placed on scooters, mid-range motorcycles and superbikes. Learners attending this programme will learn about:

  • Frame Construction
  • Engine Configurations
  • Steering
  • Suspension (Compression & Rebound Damping)
  • Braking (Mechanical & Hydraulic)
  • Anti-Lock Braking
  • Wheel & Tyre Construction – Tyre Pressure Monitoring
  • Automatic Stability Control
  • Electronic Suspension Adjust

In addition to the theoretical aspect of this programme, learners will participate in a road side check during which time they will be required to fully inspect and report on a variety of motorcycle and scooters. During the inspection day / evening candidates will be guided, watched, and assessed by tutors.
Learners will be expected to:

  • make an informed decision as to the severity of any defect found
  • decide upon what action is necessary
  • use the Categorisation of Defects Manual to confirm their decision
  • provide feedback to the rider of defects found
  • adhere to strict health & safety practices

The programme will culminate in an examination and those learners who successfully complete both the theoretical and practical elements will be awarded the ‘City & Guilds Assured Advanced Motorcycle Inspection’ certificate.

Course Requirements
Learners must have completed City & Guilds Assured Standard Vehicle Inspection course or hold a similar qualification. Time served Motor Vehicle Technicians or those with significant experiences in the motor trade can join this programme with the appropriate level of accreditation of prior learning but will be expected to sit the City & Guilds Assured Standard Vehicle examination paper midway through the programme.
