“NALEO” has for several years used the services of Mr Phil Waterman of Automotive Training to provide tuition and assessment of its’ level 3 BTEC “externally accredited” qualification in the Basic Inspection of Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Vehicles. A list of past students is available on the training pages of www.naleo.org.uk.

Phil oversees, in a very approachable, and at many times humorous, way the training and retraining of Licensing Officers who have varying degrees of mechanical knowledge. One thing however we all agree on is that at the end of the courses we have unlearned so many “everyone knows” items “like how many clicks allowed on a handbrake” and has actually learned the right ways to check a vehicle relying on the DVSA rules for vehicle standards. Any Council wishing to check vehicles for safety can rest assured that getting their staff “hands on” trained by Phil is real value for money. Availability of places on Phil’ training courses is always strictly limited and on a first booked- first accepted basis.

Personally and despite being in Taxi Licensing since 1989, when in September 2013, I and 11 colleagues underwent the course with Phil I can assure you we learned so much in such an enjoyable manner I felt that it was a shame I that we could only do the course once.

Hope you are keeping well. This is just a quick e-mail to express my thanks for your efforts during the Advanced Vehicle Inspection Course. Your enthusiasm and knowledge stood out and made the course not only stimulating and detailed but also highly enjoyable.

Advanced Vehicle Inspection for Police Officers

Rest assured that I learnt a great deal over the two weeks. I was in the fortunate position of having a reasonable base level of vehicle knowledge at the start, which meant I could look at things in more detail than some of my colleagues that said every day was a learning day and a thoroughly enjoyable one at that.
